"A SCHOOL FOR ANIMAL RIGHTS " - A PROJECT OF SICILIANIMALISTA

Sicilianimalista proposes a didactic and formative programme at the Scientific College Enrico Fermi at Paterno with the aim of creating a deeper awareness in students concerning animal rights/laws and the use and abuse of animals within a community.

OBJECTIVES

  1. To encourage both individual and collective awareness of the importance of animal rights.
  2. To recognise the need to respect animals lives.
  3. To understand that every individual can develop a respect for animals by changing small daily habits such as using products which have not been tested on animals, being vegetarian, etc.
  4. To understand the problems of animals in a city and community eg. feral animals, use of animals in circuses, intensive farming etc.
  5. To understand animal rights and our responsibalities not only towards human beings but towards all living creatures .

DIDACTIC OBJECTIVES

  1. To learn the existing laws about animal care and protection.
  2. To develop a critical and independant sense of judgement
  3. To create awareness and knowledge about animals and sensitivity towards animals.
  4. To stimulate a culture which respect both the rights of animals and humans alike.

MODUS OPERANDI

  1. Debates and lectures on hunting, circuses, vivisection, intensive farming and vegetarianism will be conducted. Experts for each field will be invited.
  2. Projection of educational and documentary videos.
  3. Distribution of educational material to students

The choice of lecturing to medium and superior schools was taken based on previous experience of similar educational projects concerning the respect and rights of living creatures.

It is a fact that what a student learns during the adolescence remains with him/her throughout his/her life.
