About I-CARE Africa
I-CARE Africa is committed to introduce and promote the concept of alternatives to the use of animals in life science education in the African sub continent. It will work in a systematic manner to sensitize the students, teachers and scientists Gandhian philopshy of "Ahimsa' or non violence in the teaching of life sciences . It will liaise with other international agencies /academia and serve as a platform for training and be a source of knowledge and information on alternatives and laboratory animal care and welfare.
I-CARE Africa is headed by Prof P. Natarajan ( former Rajiv Gandhi Chair , India ) and presently Head (CATER ) , Ambo University , Ambo . Ethiopia.
Mandate:

To introduce, promote and propagate the concept of Three R's by organizing seminars, workshops the use of alternatives in universities.

To promote and provide training in the use of alternatives to the use of animals in life science education and research.

To conduct an e-course on 'Ahimsa and Alternatives'.
The long term objective of the center is to establish The African Center for Alternatives
