About I-CARE Africa

I-CARE Africa is committed to introduce and promote the concept of alternatives to the use of animals in life science education in the African sub continent. It will work in a systematic manner to sensitize the students, teachers and scientists Gandhian philopshy of "Ahimsa' or non violence in the teaching of life sciences . It will liaise with other international agencies /academia and serve as a platform for training and be a source of knowledge and information on alternatives and laboratory animal care and welfare.

I-CARE Africa is headed by Prof P. Natarajan ( former Rajiv Gandhi Chair , India ) and presently Head (CATER ) , Ambo University , Ambo . Ethiopia.

Mandate:

• To introduce, promote and propagate the concept of Three R's by organizing seminars, workshops the use of alternatives in universities.

• To promote and provide training in the use of alternatives to the use of animals in life science education and research.

• To conduct an e-course on 'Ahimsa and Alternatives'.

The long term objective of the center is to establish The African Center for Alternatives
